Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani

Kendra's Comments: I ended up loving this book, which I didn't expect when I first began it. If you like her Big Stone Gap Books, this one should definitely be on your reading list. Queen of the Big Time sprinkles recipes and details about food and Italian culture throughout the book, similar to Trigiani’s other works. The story starts out a little sappy. Our protagonist Nella seems just a bit too perfect. She helps care for her siblings, she faces adversity square in the face, and she gives up dreams of her own to help those around her. However, once the background story on Nella and her family is revealed, she soon becomes more human. Her sacrifices and the choices she makes are not perfect, they are simply making the best out of the hand that is dealt to her. I related well to that concept, since I (like most of us) have to do that very same thing throughout my life pretty much on a daily basis. Check Status at GPL
