Kendra's Comments: Wouldn’t it be great if when you found yourself stranded in life, not quite sure of the direction or path you should be going that a little magic would take over and give you the push you need to make a change? That is the premise and why I liked the story Blackberry Wine so much by Joanne Harris. I listened to this story of an author, Jay, who has found himself with writer’s block for the past twenty years, is in an unhappy relationship and is basically floundering in life. When he accidentally opens and drinks a little homebrewed magical wine from an old friend long since gone, things start clearing up and Jay begins to make positive decisions and gets his life back in order. With the help of this fruit wine, he is able to see and converse with his old friend and is then able to be open and honest with those around him. As a consequence, the circle of people around Jay begins to open up and accept him, and Jay begins to feel as happy as he once was as a boy with his old friend Joe. This is a great little story with a few unexpected surprises to keep things fun. It is mostly light reading, but the message is clear. Status at GPL
