Mythology by Edith Hamilton

Amber's Comments: This book is an excellent introduction to Greek and Roman mythology. I started reading some mythology in my middle school English classes and enjoyed it very much. I decided to revisit some of the tales now that I'm older, and picked up Edith Hamilton's Mythology (check status at GPL) to do so.

At the beginning, Hamilton outlines to most important gods and goddesses and their major roles. This is then followed by a selection of myths.

The tales within the book are fairly short and to the point; even the lengthy quests, such as the "Quest for the Golden Fleece" last less than 10 pages. I've been reading it one or two tales at a time, and that was a great bite-sized way to read it.

The only thing I disliked about the book is that in some tales the Greek names for the gods are used, and in others the Roman. This takes some extra concentration to keep them all straight. However, this variation is understandable because she ties the tale to the most famous version of the myths, depending on if they were written by a Greek or Roman.
