How do you keep track of YOUR reading list?

Most people who work in a library love books. The close proximity to so many great reads is a huge perk of working at a library. Myth buster fact: Librarians do not get to sit at their desk and read all day. I know, it's a shocker. No matter, many of us spend large amounts of time off the clock reading for pleasure and also to be prepared when we are asked that all important question: What should I read next?

Many of us keep track of the books we read. Most of us even rate each book, categorize it, and often write a review of it. Besides being able to help library customers pick out good books to read, keeping track of what authors are especially good and which series are "hot" also helps us when it comes time to pick out new books the library should purchase. This would take a ton of time if we had to write out all this information by hand. In my case, it would also be incredibly disheartening if I ever lost that giant notebook one day. So, many of us use the free online tool at Goodreads.com. It is a social networking site for book lovers.

Several of our patrons are now part of GPL's online Goodreads community, and it is so fun! We can look at each other's reading lists and find out what books are worth reading next. If we have an especially good book, we can recommend it to others who we think might also really like it. Please consider taking a look at Goodreads, creating a free account, and joining the GPL group. We would love to know what you are reading!

If you have questions on how to set up an account or would like to speak to me about my Goodreads experience, don't hesitate to email (kmartin@greenwoodlibrary.us) or call me (885-5036).
