Sheila's comments:
In 1854, Cheyenne Chief Little Wolf asked for 1,000 white women as brides for his warriors in exchange for 1,000 horses. In the meantime, May Dodd had been locked away in an insane asylum for her indecent behavior. Through an act of desperation, May manipulates her way into the "Brides for Horses" campaign. The journal that she keeps tells of the adventures of some very colorful white brides (including the black one), their marriages to Cheyenne warriors, and the pure abundance of life on the prairie before the white men's onslaught of their form of civilization.
This novel is character-centered with strong characterization. It's an easy read with multiple plot lines.
