Home to Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani

Kendra's Comments: This delightful book in the Big Stone Gap series finds Ave Maria and Jack Mac a little older. Ave Maria is mostly content with the life she has lived in the past twenty years, but has to deal with Jack Mack's poor health, her young daughter's marriage and overseas move, and a spat with Iva Lou. The humorous way in which she deals with these issues makes you want to laugh out loud at times. Like Trigiani's other books, delicious sounding recipes are sprinkled throughout the text. Someday - really I am going to try some of them (I say that every time I read one of her books). This is a good book for those who can relate to a slightly off beat woman who prizes family loyalty and good food above all else. Check Status at GPL

A Common Life: The Wedding Story by Jan Karon

Kendra's Comments: A Common Life : The Wedding Story is book 6 of Jan Karon's Mitford Years Series. While references are made to earlier books, enough character description is given to enjoy this book without reading the previous books in the series. This soft and sweet story dealing with fear of love, small town antedotes and happy endings is a nice gentle read. The beloved 62 year old town preacher of Mitford has finally conquered his fears of uncontitional love. He is ready to marry his neighborhood sweetheart. This enchanting tale provides details of a storybook wedding from the time of the proposal through the honeymoon. They each learn to face their fears of going through this unchartered territory with the help of prayer and love. At the same time the citizens of Mitford take the time to reflect upon weddings and feelings of love in their own lives. Check Status
