Sheila's comments:
In a medical thriller that will keep you guessing from start to finish, we meet tough female cop Jane Rizzoli and learn of her struggles to survive and thrive in a "man's" world working in the homicide unit in Boston. Dr. Cordell has been through a lot in the last couple of years overcoming the fear of killing a serial killer before he could kill her. Living in a new city and succeeding as one of the top women in the surgical field, she is finally feeling like her old self again. That is, of course, until Detective Thomas Moore and Jane Rizzoli call on her for help in solving a murder spree that is so similar to the one she has survived. The further Cordell gets pulled into the case, the more Rizzoli and Moore realise this serial killer, nicknamed "The Surgeon," isn't just emulating a previous serial killer, but is still going after the one person who survived. But how is it possible for the Surgeon to know the things he knows?
This is the first book in the Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles series, which inspired the television series Rizzoli & Isles.

Killing Fear by Allison Brennan
Peggy's Comments: Theodore Glenn loves to inflict pain . . .both on his victims and on those who later find the mutilated corpses. At his trial seven years ago, Glenn vowed vengence on Det. Will Hooper, the cop who nabbed him, and Robin McKenna, the stripper whose testimony put him behind bars. When a catastrophic disaster sets Glenn free, he blazes a freshly bloodied path across San Diego County. But the death he craves most is Robin McKennas's. Putting aside their past troubled relationship, Will rushes to protect Robin, now a successful businesswoman. As the killings mount and Glenn proves a master manipulator, Robin and Will become entwined in a twisted web of horror. I love this author and Killling Fear is the first book of her new Prison Break series. Suspenseful . . .a good read. Check Status at GPL

Stalemate by Iris Johansen
Kendra's Comments: Many years after the disappearance of her sweet little girl Bonnie, Eve Duncan is still struggling with the debilitating grief of losing her daughter. She has tried to moveon and is a successful forensic sculptor living in Georgia with her devoted husband Joe Quin. As a rule she does not work for criminals and explains this to a gun dealer living in Columbia who is very interested in hiring Eve for a particular job. After Eve turns down all his offers, he finally makes the one offer she could never refuse and she finds herself in the middle of a jungle in Maltavo’s compound. This suspenseful story will keep you turning the pages to see if Eve and those she loves can make it out of the jungle alive, and still together. I liked this easy-to-read story, but I warn you: there is strong language in this one. It explores the issues of grief, love, lust and fear. The plot twists completely surprised me in the end. I wish it had kept going just a little longer because some things were left hanging, but that is generally what you get when a book deals with human emotions and the issue of love! By the way, GPL has Stalemate in our fiction section, and in audiobook format in cd and NetLibrary download versions. If you like this book and want to read more books about the characters you'll read about here, check out this Fantastic Fiction Website where the author's books are organized really well. A Simple Plan by Scott Smith
Kendra's Comments: A Simple Plan is a psychological suspense that is sure to get under your skin with it's identifiable characters, unexpected plot twists and sudden spurts of violence. The story begins when two brothers and an acquaintance stumble upon an abandoned airplane in the woods and decide to investigate. They find four million dollars and decide to keep it. Difficulties arise as they try to protect themselves and the money. The original simple plan of keeping quiet and keeping the money becomes complicated. Love, greed, jealousy, and fear are at the core of this story. The reader is led through the narration of a simple everyday guy contemplating how far will he go to protect himself and those he loves?
