Kendra's Comments: I had never read a Sue Grafton book. They are so popular here at the library that I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. I started at the beginning – just in case I got hooked and wanted to go in order. These books follow the life of a private investigator, Kinsey Millhone, and her no-frills approach to solving crimes and living somewhat of a rough life. She is a divorcee who seems to relate more and understand the crime of murder (because it is a crime of passion) than of a con artist (because it is a crime of scamming others). In A is for Alibi Kinsey takes a case where she is supposed to find out who killed Laurence Fife. Nikki (Laurence’s wife) was charged for the crime eight years before and has just finished a prison sentence – but wants Kinsey to find out the truth. There is a fair amount of drama and tension. This first book has a lot of character details thrown in, which might not be present in later books. The level of sex and language is slightly below a James Patterson book. It was an easy read. I might not read the whole alphabet – but I will probably turn to the series again in the future for a light, juicy read. Check Status at GPL
