What is social networking?
"Social networking refers to a broad class of web sites and services that allow you to connect with friends, family, and colleagues online, as well as meet people with similar interestes or hobbies." - www.tucows.com/article/1903
Why should I participate?
It's fun! On Facebook and Twitter you can let others know what you are currently doing. On Goodreads you can keep a list along with ratings and reviews of books you have read or are planning to read, and on Myspace you can hang out online with your friends and share music, photos, and videos.
How does Greenwood Public Library fit in with social networking?
We love it! Librarians and staff of GPL are everywhere on line. Please feel free to become a fan of our Facebook Site (just search Greenwood Public Library when you are in Facebook), friend any of us in Goodreads or hang out on the Teen Myspace Page.
What if I am interested, but don't know how to start?
Stop by the library and ask at the adult reference desk for help, call us at 317-885-5036 or email reflib@greenwoodlibrary.us. The sites are all free to use and are fun once you get the hang of it. Also - check out this week's GPLcast to hear how Emily, Kendra and Jane use social networking to keep up with kids, find old schoolmates, and swap favorite book stories.
Question of the Cast: What social networking sites do you use and what do you think of them?
