The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman

Kendra's comments:

The Imperfectionists, a novel, covers a variety of interesting characters whose lives intertwine with an international newspaper based in Rome. The sketches bounce back and forth in time from when the paper was initially set up to approximately present day when the newspaper folded. Each vignette focuses on a different person or department of the newspaper and deals with their personal life and how it is impacted by their relationship to the paper. This engaging story depicts the lives of a copy editor, the founder of the paper and the generations of owners that followed him, a couple of editors, a person from accounts payable, a reporter, and several others. These various characters are as different as can be, and I was drawn into the story each time. Right about the time I would really want to know more about a character was when the author would bounce us to a different character in a different time. This was a fun read.
