Resistance: Book 1 by Carla Jablonski and Leland Purvis

Cara's comments:

After reading American Born Chinese, I have been searching for another enjoyable graphic novel.  As I am new to this genre, I checked YALSA’s suggestions and chose Resistance.  This book is not a disappointment.  The story is set in France during World War II, just at the time France becomes occupied.  Paul and Marie Tessier live in a part of France that previously had little action.  However, that begins to change quickly.  Paul’s father is a prisoner of war, and Paul’s best friend, Henri, is Jewish.  After Henri’s parents disappear, Paul and Marie decide to join the resistance and to find a way to help Henri find his parents before the German’s find him.

Resistance is a quick read, and the illustrations are engaging.  I look forward to the rest of the series, as the ending makes it very clear that this is only the beginning.  Even for those of us that have read many World War II books, this one gives a new perspective.
